The Process Involved In Applying A Flock To A Fabric

A flock is a group of fibers that are frequently composed of cotton, polyester, rayon, and nylon. It is also known as the fluffy material that adheres to materials during the flocking process.

Unlike a milled flock, which is a collection of naturally occurring fibers of various lengths that have not been manipulated, a cut flock is all the same length. For applications requiring precise lengths of flocked designs, ranging from.3 mm to 5 mm, cut flock is used.

The various processes in which flocked labels can be added to fabrics  

1. Manual Flocking

Manual flocking, also known as direct flocking, is by far the most exciting procedure used for flocked labels and is doable by skilled screen printers with the right equipment. In this approach, an automated machine applies adhesive ink to the item to outline the design.

So, the flocked label then travels to a flocking device where an electrostatic charge assists. The grounded receiving material, such as a t-shirt or the plastic in a car interior, is sent flock fibers that are negatively charged.

When the flocked label touches the adhesive, the opposite charge makes it stand up straight on its one, giving the flock that neat, fabric-like appearance.

Depending on the substance, the glue is then dried at a temperature greater than regular ink. The more durable the adhesive used in this technique is, the better it will hold up to washing and dry cleaning.

2. Transferring the flocked label

This method is similar to traditional screen printing, this procedure starts by applying adhesive ink to the material in the desired design before it is cured and hardened.

Then the correct color-flocked label with transfer paper is then placed on top of the inked design and heated to transfer the flock to the inked pattern. Only the flock on top of the glue is left when the designers peel away the transfer.

3. Compressed Air flocking

Using a specialized compressed-air flicker is one of the quickest and simplest ways to apply flock. A surface with pre-laid adhesive is covered with a uniform flow of flock using a flocking gun or machine.

To get the desired appearance, extra flocks can be blown or vacuumed away, similar to manual flocking.
